What have I (not) been doing?!?

Argh! Another year has gone by. Here is the summary of what has happened to me summer'05-spring'06:
1. Had to take care of 2 interns: a high school student from HBA, and a college kid from France.
2. Planed to take the qualifying exams in summer 2005
3. Advisor (Olga) gave birth to a baby boy the night before my quals!!!
4. Went to Shanghai to present my paper at EMBC'05
5. Went to visit my parents in Bangkok
6. Came back to Hawaii to sub for Olga
7. Took my quals in Oct.
8. Passed my quals! yah! :)
9. Quit the EE computer lab monitor job
10. Started working at CTAHR on another computer tech support job
11. Made little progress on my research :(
12. Finished all the class/teaching requirements
13. Did 300-yard free style under 8 minutes (slow poke! poke! poke!)

Happy Earth Day!

April 22nd = Earth Day!

Have I done anything to save the planet? Well, I recycle stuff religiously. I walk or take a bus (because I don't have a car - haha!) I take less longer shower (oh man, I stink!)

Election day!

School is closed for election day. So all UH students get 4 days off! But for me, I was really sick on Saturday, came to campus to do hw on Sunday, did more hw on Monday, and still is here on campus today trying to do some research. So I don't really get any day off. It's not like I'm a workaholic or anything. But man! Working without anyone in the office is kindda nice.

I wonder who is going to win the election. Last night on the Daily Show, Jon Stewart was saying there'd be 3 outcomes: kerry wins, kerry loses, or civil war :P It's sort of funny to hear it, but really scarying to think about it!

UH flooded!!

Classes at UH Manoa are cancelled today! Mwahahahah :D
I was on campus yesterday and did not think that the situation was getting worse. Yesterday, my shoes were covered with mud from walking around campus. The mud was 1-2 inch thick on the sidewalk. Last night, more rain was pouring down in Manoa valley. I've read on the newspaper that there was 4-6 feet of flood gushing through campus last night! WOAH! The government document in Hamilton library basement was floating everywhere. Lots of campus building are out of power (not my engineering building - yeah!) UH mail servers are down. Mr. & Mrs. H said it was such a typical thing of the HI state to not be prepared for this. "It's all republican's fault," they said :)

Piano virtuoso Lang Lang

Last Friday, I went to the Honolulu Symphony concert. I did not realize at first how lucky I was to be there listening/watching Lang Lang's "phenom channelled Prokofiev" performance! So today before coming to campus, I stopped by McCully-Moiliili library to check out his CD's. I was not disappointed at all - having to walk 2 miles to the library. (I needed some exercise anyway :P) I would post his songs here but I was afraid of getting into trouble with all those copyrights laws thingy...

Last night, I was at the HS rehearsal. There were hula dancers dancing with Haydn's the Creation. (-_-') That was something I'd never seen before... Interesting though - I should say.

Procrastinate now! Do not put it off!

I was trying to make my first JK flip flop in VHDL, but really did not feel like doing it. So I decided to make a little web page to kill my boredom. Tim, my classmate, was showing me his blog page. And I was like 'Cool! I've gotta do this. It's much easier than trying to hand-crafted html' :P (btw, the title is from Ellen DeGeneres' stand-up show)
